    Self Recovery

Imagine encountering someone after resigning yourself to the idea that romantic love was not in the cards—someone who mirrors your perspective on life and shares your values, your sense of humor, and your passion for elevating humanity. This person is so in tune with you that they finish your sentences and seem to reside in your thoughts. This was the experience of Dave and Susan Kenney when they met, cementing a shared commitment to uplift others that proved extraordinarily powerful.

A Movement Born from a Love Story

Dave and Susan, soulmates and partners in a significant movement, share a story that transcends typical romantic tales. When they first crossed paths, they couldn't have predicted that their mutual worldview would heal thousands of individuals and their families.

    Educators Pioneering Recovery

When they met, Dave was a Director of Admissions and a Leadership team member at a prestigious private school. At the same time, Susan was an innovative educator, a prominent health and wellbeing practitioner, and a seasoned entrepreneur. Their home and Dave's office became sanctuaries where students would spend weekends confiding their dreams and struggles with academic pressures, depression, anxiety, homesickness, and substance use. This nurturing environment became the foundation for a much larger endeavor.

Prompted by a groundbreaking question—what if addiction is not about a lack of willpower or a moral failing, but a neurological condition?—Dave and Susan ventured into scientific research. Their findings confirmed their hypothesis: issues like addiction, ADHD, depression, anxiety, and learning challenges are indeed neurological.

    Launching Emergo

Motivated by these insights, Dave and Susan Kenney launched a residential recovery program focusing on neuroplasticity to rewire the brain. Starting with a modest budget sourced from personal lines of credit, they established their program before external investors. The program was an immediate success, growing exponentially and building a dedicated team of twenty-eight professionals within three years.

    Expanding the Scope of Recovery

Their work soon extended beyond addiction to include other life crises like divorce, bereavement, and panic attacks. Their successful methodology led to Emergo Recovery, a private wellness center specializing in Actualized Recovery®. This integrative, brain-first approach has transformed the lives of thousands, helping them overcome challenges like addiction, anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts.

    The Science Behind Actualized Recovery®

Actualized Recovery incorporates a holistic approach with five pillars: physiology, psychology, spirit, connections, and lifestyle. This comprehensive method has successfully liberated countless individuals from their struggles, allowing them to thrive.
